The City of Peekskill is a thriving, historic community located on the banks of the Hudson River. It is demographically diverse and is home to a growing community of artists. However, to date there has not been an arts center for the community to engage in visual and performing arts.

The Peekskill Art Center will address this need with the specific objectives:

• To provide space for visual and performing arts classes.
• To provide facilities for performance of theater, cinema, music, and dance.
• To provide opportunities for participants to engage in recreational, social, artistic, and cultural events that enhance the creative life of the community.
• To sponsor, host and/or participate in gallery exhibitions, events and activities that promote the arts and artists.

The Peekskill Art Center will be overseen by a voluntary Board of Directors who have been chosen based upon their skills and experience in the arts and business community of Peekskill. Day to day management will be done by an Executive Director with extensive experience in arts management and grant writing.  Program development will be done in conjunction with an Advisory Committee comprised of representatives from Peekskill’s many arts organizations.

The visual art center will be housed in 4,000 square feet of a building that will be renovated to suit the Center’s objectives. There are also plans to develop an additional 4,000 square feet into two art cinema spaces, one of which would be convertible to theater. The remaining 16,000 square feet will be rented commercially and will house artists’ studios, and media related businesses.

The Peekskill Art Center will be a vibrant and stimulating environment that will bring a much needed resource to the community.
